Government
The Alma City Government consists of an elected Mayor and four
City Councilmen who oversee the efforts of a City Administrator,
Treasurer, Clerk and Utility Superintendent. City departments include
Streets, Gas, Water and Waste Water. Outside seasonal staff are
hired to support the city pool, parks and compost programs. To learn

As the county seat of Harlan County, Alma boasts a modern county
courthouse. Harlan County is governed by a seven member Board of
Supervisors, and other elected officials include the County Attorney,
County Assessor, Treasurer and Sheriff.
Among government agencies represented in Alma are the National
Resources Conservation Service, the Lower Republican NRD, the Farm
Service Administration and others. Most government documents, such
as passports, marriage and drivers licenses, and hunting and fishing
permits can be obtained right in Alma.
